About Farmborough Memorial Hall

The hall is run and maintained by a small,  dedicated group of Farmborough residents - the Farmborough Memorial Hall Committee. We are all volunteers and welcome enquiries and useful suggestions from all villagers and hall users. We are also always on the look out for volunteers to join the Committee.

The hall is held in trust and we are a registered charity with all surplus from the hiring of the hall helping to maintain the building and garden.

The History of Farmborough Memorial Hall

After World War II ended the idea of a new village hall was widely discussed in the village. It was agreed it would be called 'The Memorial Hall' in memory of the people of Farmborough who had died in both  World Wars.  Money left over from the ‘Save Britain Fund’ was used to start the building fund and for the next 20 years  various village organisations raised money for the hall fund with various social events and activities. It was a difficult job to find a suitable site for the building of a new hall but eventually in June 1954 the triangular piece of land where the hall stands today was purchased from George's Brewery for £70!

The Hall officially opened on 12 March 1966, and 10 years later an extension was added, resulting in the Farmborough Memorial Hall as we know it today.

Significant investment in the last ten years means the hall is not only in excellent condition but also boasts some impressive green credentials including 6kW solar PV generation, low energy LED lighting throughout, fully insulated to the latest standards and air-source heat pump heating. The hall is also the only publicly available fast (20kW) EV charging point between Bath and Midsomer Norton (according to Zap-Map).
